Sandra Tsing Loh brings ‘Dena Home Companion’ to Coffee Gallery Backstage
STAFF REPORT

Everything old-ish is new-ish again.

Longtime NPR and KPCC (“Loh Down on Science”) commentator and home girl Sandra Tsing Loh is bringing something creative called “A ‘dena Home Companion” to The Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena, on Sunday, January 30.

The show is labeled “A uniquely ‘dena (Pasadena/Altadena) spin on Garrison Keillor’s ‘Prairie Home Companion.’”

The staged “radio” show is presented by small fictional public radio station KDNA (“News and Culture of the ‘denas,”) as a  live monthly hometown show, complete with fake sponsors.  “Altadena Goddess Wear,” for example.

The new “old school” variety show will feature original humor and classic American songs with a twist, ending with an all audience-welcome hootenanny.

Crows the announcement:  “A ‘dena Home Companion’ shows that we are much more than mystery cheese shops and drought-tolerant gardening (although we are, of course, also that).”

January guests include John Michael Higgins (Pitch Perfect, Best in Show), Original Ikette Maxayn Lewis , Jim Turner (MTV’s Randee of the Redwoods, Duck’s Breath Mystery Theater), and David Politzer, banjo-picking Caltech Nobel Prize winner.

The show, is, of course,  Omicron-contingent.

A ‘dena Home Companion at the Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 Lake Ave, Altadena, CA 91001. 3 p.m. Sunday, January 30th. (626) 798-6236.
