The Silver Lake Track Club is organizing an ultra marathon relay from Altadena to the Palisades on Saturday, May 10, to raise funds for local organizations involved in wildfire recovery efforts.

The “Altadena to the Palisades” event will take runners on a 50-kilometer (31-mile) journey across Los Angeles, with checkpoints approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) apart.

“Rebuilding from the wildfires is an ultra-marathon, not a sprint,” said the event announcement. “This is not a race, but a celebratory run to reflect and re-energize efforts to rebuild the beautiful city of Los Angeles through running.”

The relay will begin at Good Neighbor Bar in Altadena, at 2311 Lincoln Avenue, with a 7 a.m. start time. Checkpoints will include Found Coffee in Eagle Rock, Makisupa in Silver Lake, Superba in Hollywood, and Tuscan Son in Santa Monica before finishing at Will Rogers Beach in the Palisades.

Participants can join as teams of up to five people, run the full 50 kilometers individually, or choose whatever segment suits them. According to organizers, there are no time limits, and participants can “run what you want, with a team or on your own.”

“We invite all run clubs and runners to join us in an effort to make a meaningful impact,” the organizers said. “All funds raised will be donated to local, ongoing fire relief and rebuilding efforts.”

The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team, one of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude on their Facebook page: “Thank you to Silverlake Track Club for the continued support.”

All runners will receive a commemorative event T-shirt and support from sponsors including ASICS and Bandit Running. The registration fee is $50 per runner, with all proceeds being evenly distributed between local organizations in Altadena and the Palisades.

The Silver Lake Track Club, established in 2017, has grown into “one of Los Angeles’ premier recreational run clubs,” according to their website. The club hosts free training runs three times weekly and organizes charity-based running events throughout the year.

Event organizers emphasize that no particular fitness level is required. “You can run, walk, bike, scooter, volunteer, cheer, vibe out however you want,” the announcement said. “The main goal is to raise funds for fire relief and create a community experience for LA.”
