Goldenhersh, a professional classical singer since 1992, started Lauri’s List in 2002 after noticing how isolating the freelance vocal life could be. Over two decades she has grown it into a tightly knit community of singers, voice teachers, choral conductors, composers and collaborative pianists, along with the organizations that hire them. The periodic Schmooze sessions are the in-person heart of that network, a chance to reconnect, trade leads and simply catch up between concerts and seasons.
This gathering carries an open invitation. All singers are welcome, whether or not they subscribe to the list, making it an easy entry point for newcomers curious about the community. There is no formal program, just conversation over pizza in a relaxed setting.
For working musicians who spend much of their careers in solitary practice rooms or scattered across rehearsal halls, the appeal is straightforward: a night to be among people who understand the particular rhythms of a singing life, and to head into summer with a few more connections than before.
