Led by artist and instructor John Pitblado, the in-garden session is designed for all skill levels and highlights close observation, interpretation and translation of the natural environment into both words and visual marks.
According to the event description, attendees will “learn to tell the story of a place through sketching and poetic language with John Pitblado” and “explore the intersection of language and visual art through a process of observation and translation.”
Inspired by the surrounding plants and paths, participants move “from simple words and evocative phrases to poetic visual descriptions on paper,” using language and line to capture what they see.
The listing notes that the workshop is held outdoors within Descanso’s grounds and that “some walking may be involved,” with the group meeting at the Rose Garden fountain.
Priced at $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers, the program is part of Descanso Gardens’ slate of paid adult offerings that link creative practice with environmental appreciation.
