Good news for everyone who has ever sat motionless on a local freeway wondering how this became their mornings.
Pasadena Bike Month wraps with its main event this Thursday, May 21, and the city is making it easy: roll up to Pasadena City Hall between 7 and 9:30 a.m. and the morning belongs to you.
The pit stop sets up on the Garfield Avenue side, where the City of Pasadena’s Department of Transportation, Day One, and the Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition are handing out free coffee, snacks, and a few giveaways reserved exclusively for those who show up on two wheels.
Pasadena Cyclery will be parked on-site for last-minute tune-ups, tire air, and the small mercies of a working brake.
No ticket required, though cyclists can register online for an email reminder. Transit goes free for the day too: Pasadena Transit, Dial-A-Ride, Metro buses and trains, and a free 30-minute Metro Bike Share ride (tap “1-Ride” at any station) — meaning even the work-from-home crowd has no excuse to stay parked.
City Transportation Director Joaquin T. Siques calls Bike Month “a great opportunity for residents and visitors to see, hear, taste, and feel all that Pasadena has to offer while riding a bicycle” — which is the politest possible way of saying your car has been lying to you about this town…
Thursday is a chance to test the theory, alongside thousands of riders across Los Angeles County doing the same.
And if one morning ride gives you ideas, the rest of the month is ready.
The Pasadena E-Bike Expo lands at the Rose Bowl Area H on May 24 from 2 to 4 p.m., and a Family Bike Festival closes things out at Hastings Branch Library on May 30 — part of a full slate of free rides, tours, and classes running through month’s end.
Pump your tires, dust off the helmet, and meet us at Garfield. Your commute, for once, sounds like birds.
100 Garfield Ave., Pasadena. Thursday, May 21, 7–9:30 a.m. Free.
