Stonefire Grill was packed on a recent Saturday night in Hastings Ranch, every table filled and the parking lot already out of options. Inside, families moved easily between kiosks and tables, trays appearing quickly, the room running with the calm efficiency of long practice.
It is Lent, that annual season of restraint, when many diners temporarily set aside their usual routines. Stonefire, known for its abundance, meets the moment with seafood offerings that feel generous rather than dutiful.
The salmon comes with a choice: lemon garlic, described as bright and citrusy, or a sesame glaze—deeper, richer, and unmistakably savory. Our server called it “umami.” We went with that. It was bold and satisfying, the glaze settling evenly into the fish. Garlic mashed potatoes alongside were smooth and indulgent, and the garlic breadsticks stayed in steady rotation.
A Caesar and kale salad topped with grilled shrimp arrived crisp and composed, substantial enough to last beyond the evening. Ours came home with us, spent a comfortable night in the refrigerator, and returned the next day still fresh and balanced.
Another option, lemon garlic shrimp served over cilantro lime rice with chopped Italian parsley, offers something lighter—aromatic, bright, and complete.
Ordering happens largely at kiosks, though the service never feels distant. Staff deliver meals quickly and keep the room moving without urgency. It remains unmistakably a family place. Limited-time $13 meals—personal pizzas, pastas, barbecue chopped salad, pulled pork—reinforce its easy appeal.
We finished with Stonefire’s celebrated carrot cake and coffee, which we poured ourselves. The cake was moist, dense, and unmistakably satisfying. Most of it, along with the coffee, accompanied us on the drive home, extending the evening in the quiet way good meals sometimes do.
For those observing Lent, the seafood here softens the edges of abstinence. Stonefire doesn’t ask you to give anything up. It just offers something else to enjoy.
