Earlier this month, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses announced its first-ever art competition celebrating Dia de Los Muertos, Day of the Dead, in partnership with Concamin (Confederation of Industrial Chambers of Mexico), EWomenMX, the Mexican consulate in Los Angeles and the Roybal Foundation.

Well, time is almost up, so be sure to turn in your submissions by noon on Wednesday, October 28, for your chance to win prizes.

The contest is open for ages 4 to 18.

Entries can take any shape or form as long as it celebrates and reflects the traditions of Dia de los Muertos. Some of the ideas that the Tournament of Roses suggested included constructing an ofrenda (altar), building a visual art presentation, creating a floral arrangement, making and decorating a sugar skull, making a traditional Dia de los Muertos costume, writing a literary calavera, face painting using traditional Dia de los Muertos makeup, and creating an art piece featuring marigolds and/or monarch butterflies.

To submit, create your masterpiece, take still images and capture video that represent your work, write a brief description of your submission and email your entry to marketing@tournamentofroses.com. Be sure to include your name, school and grade and your contact information.

Entries and prizes will be in three categories: ages 4 to 8, 9 to 13 and 14 to18.

Winners will be announced on Monday, November 2. Prizes include scholarships and gift cards.
