When the sun sets over Pasadena this Friday, families at Kidspace Children’s Museum will witness something truly rare: a performance by America’s only Korean classical music and dance company.

“Play past your bedtime with Kidspace’s Sunset Music Series! Join us this summer for unforgettable outdoor concerts featuring live music, dance,” the museum promises.

The Korean Classical Music and Dance Company, founded in 1978 by Donald Dongsuk Kim, brings nearly 47 years of tradition and over 5,000 performances to the Stone Hollow Amphitheater.

This Southern California ensemble has graced stages from the White House to the Metropolitan Opera House, Los Angeles Music Center, Hollywood Bowl, and Olympic Arts Festivals.

“Discover the vibrant traditions of Korea with the Korean Classical Music and Dance Company! Enjoy dynamic drum dances, graceful fan and flower crown dances, and mesmerizing music performed on traditional instruments,” according to the museum’s event description.

The performance showcases dynamic drum dances (Buk chum), graceful fan dances (Buchae chum), and flower crown dances (Hwa kwan mu), accompanied by traditional instruments including Samulnori changgo percussion and Kayagum stringed zither.

The amphitheater’s open-air lawn requires families to bring blankets or chairs.

Evening admission runs $13.50 to $15.50 with free entry for Kidspace members.

Families can bring picnics or purchase food from the cafe or food trucks.

“Sunset Music Series: The Beauty and Sounds of Korea” will run on Friday, Sept. 5 at 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Kidspace Children’s Museum, 480 N. Arroyo Blvd., in Pasadena. For more call (626) 449-9144 or visit https://kidspacemuseum.org/event/sunset-music-series-2025-2-2-2/. Tickets: $13.50 to $15.50.
