Sushi Roku in Pasadena is featuring new menu items built around A5 Wagyu and truffle as part of its summer edition of Dine LA Restaurant Week, which runs through Friday.
The restaurant, at 33 Miller Alley in Old Pasadena, is one of 26 Pasadena restaurants and 57 across the San Gabriel Valley taking part in the twice-yearly promotion, produced by Los Angeles Tourism. No ticket or reservation platform is required. Diners simply ask for the Dine LA menu at the table.
A visit this week gave us a look at the new additions. A seaweed salad came first, hiyashi wakame with cucumber, arare, and a wasabi citrus vinaigrette. Next was octopus carpaccio, thin slices of tentacle over yuzu chili ponzu, topped with red yuzu kosho, lemon zest, and micro cilantro. Tuna tataki followed, served in mizore ponzu with onion, chives, and garlic chips. A crispy dish tossed in a sweet and spicy glaze, with chili threads and pea shoots, rounded out the shared plates.
The restaurant’s new Roku Signature sushi is served handroll-style in seaweed. Options include a truffle crab piece with snow crab, avocado, and champagne butter, and an A5 Wagyu piece with kizami wasabi, garlic chips, and sesame soy. A grilled salmon entree, served with golden Yukon mashed potato, green apple, and bok choy in a citrus kumquat sauce, finished the meal.
In Pasadena, Dine LA menus start at $25, higher than the $15 floor used countywide. Sushi Roku is one of many local restaurants taking part through August 28.
At Fishwives, 88 North Fair Oaks Avenue, dinner runs $65 and above for a seafood menu with outdoor seating. Alexander’s Steakhouse, 111 North Los Robles Avenue, offers dinner only, also at $65 and above. Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ, 70 West Green Street, has a $25 lunch built around tableside grilling of cuts like skirt steak and short rib. Agnes Restaurant and Cheesery, 40 West Green Street, offers a $35 lunch and a $65-and-above dinner centered on its cheese delicacies.
Bone Kettle, 67 North Raymond Avenue, serves Southeast Asian bone broth dishes and small plates. Granville, 270 South Lake Avenue, has a $25 lunch. Nha Trang Vietnamese Cuisine is the only Pasadena restaurant with a $25 dinner.
Twenty of the 26 Pasadena restaurants offer outdoor dining, and 17 cuisine categories are represented citywide.
