If the calculus of a perfect Saturday includes 30 to 40 free-roaming rescue cats, a round of Kitty Bingo and a paint-your-own-cat-portrait station, Tail Town Cat Café has built its annual event around exactly that premise. On Saturday, the Pasadena nonprofit opens its adoption lounge to the public for the second annual Carnival of Cats — a free, family-friendly open house designed both to find homes for rescue cats and to celebrate the café’s ongoing nonprofit mission.
The adoption lounge will be open for free guest visits throughout the day, offering an unusually relaxed environment for meeting adoptable cats. Activities include shortened versions of Tail Town’s monthly programming — Kitty Bingo, Cat Trivia, Cat Cornhole and a mini Meow-N-Paint where visitors of all ages can create their own cat portraits. Games begin on the hour starting at noon. Feline fortunes will be told by the Tarot Nerd, and a custom Carnival Cat created by artist, author and illustrator Heidi Moreno serves as the day’s photo backdrop.
Last year’s inaugural Carnival drew more than 600 attendees, and organizers expect another strong turnout. Tail Town opened with the modest goal of connecting foster cats with adopters in an open-air environment and has since grown into one of the more distinctive cat rescue operations in the region, transitioning to nonprofit status in 2024. The adoption lounge is open to guests ages six and older.
Drinks and snacks are available for purchase. The café sits on East Washington Boulevard just west of Allen Avenue.
