When Li Li-shu arranges flowers, she’s not just creating beauty—she’s channeling philosophical traditions that predate the founding of America.

This month, the Taiwanese master will bring that living history to PCC in Pasadena, where students can experience firsthand an art form that has shaped Asian culture for centuries.

Li Li-shu will lead the Traditional Chinese Floral Arts Exhibition alongside three senior disciples, presenting works that reflect artistic traditions spanning centuries. The comprehensive Chinese Floral Arts Symposium runs from July 9 to 26 at PCC’s V Building.

The event kicks off with a “Hands-On Culture — Be a Scholar for a Day” program on Wednesday, July 9, from noon to 3 p.m., followed by a VIP Opening Reception on Thursday, July 24, at 5 p.m.

The public can view the Traditional Chinese Floral Arts Exhibition on July 25 to 26.

“This program bridges centuries of heritage with today’s students in an inspiring and interactive way,” said Vivian Chan, EVP/Curator of the Chinese Floral Arts Foundation–USA Charter.

“We’re honored to be hosted by PCC and to engage our community in meaningful cultural learning.”

The program draws inspiration from the Huntington Library’s Chinese Garden initiative, launched in 2008 and adopted by the San Marino Unified School District for over 13 years.

The symposium represents a collaboration between the Chinese Floral Arts Foundation–USA Charter, PCC in Pasadena, the PCC Foundation, and the Chinese American Museum. The event is underwritten by a Community Excellence Grant from the PCC Foundation, funded by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott’s 2021 gift.

“The Chinese Floral Arts Symposium and Cultural Exhibition” will run July 24 to 26. VIP Opening Reception on Thursday, July 24, at 5 p.m., and public viewing July 25 to 26.
