Two showings, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., will mark the end of the Playhouse’s Musical Theater Boot Camp, an audition-only program for students ages 14 to 18 who have completed at least their freshman year of high school, according to the Playhouse’s event page. The program runs July 20-31, 2026.

No tickets are required for the performances, but attendance is by guest list rather than open to the public. The Playhouse said each student performer may bring up to three guests per showtime.

The two-week camp, held on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., focuses on acting, singing and dance training, along with audition preparation and instruction in musical theater history, according to the Playhouse. Admission to the program itself requires a video audition consisting of a personal introduction, a one-minute cut of a monologue from a published play, and a 32-bar cut of a song from a musical.

Faculty include Will Pellegrini, who has directed and designed for Los Angeles theaters including the Actors’ Gang and Theater of NOTE. He is adjunct faculty at East Los Angeles College, Mt. San Antonio College and Ventura College, teaching acting, musical theater, stagecraft and directing, according to the Playhouse.

Also on faculty is Adam McDonald, who holds degrees in classical piano performance from Iowa State University and the Boston Conservatory. McDonald spent eight years touring with “Wicked,” eventually serving as its music director, and has worked at the Pasadena Playhouse, the Pantages, La Mirada Theatre, the Pageant of the Masters, and as rehearsal accompanist for “Lion King Live” at the Hollywood Bowl.

The camp is part of a broader expansion of the Playhouse’s education programs for 2026, which includes 16 community classes and two summer camps. The other camp track, Playhouse Players Summer Camp, stages a production of “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical JR.” for students ages 7 to 12 across four two-week sessions running from June 15 through August 7, 2026.

“Education is as core to us as the shows on stage,” Producing Artistic Director Danny Feldman said, according to BroadwayWorld’s coverage of the Playhouse’s announcement. Pasadena Playhouse is the official State Theater of California and won a Regional Theatre Tony Award in 2023.
