Everyone is likely familiar with The Lions Club International. Seemingly every town and community in the world has a branch. It is the world’s largest service club, one which has grown to 1.3 million men and women in about 48,000 clubs worldwide.

That’s a lot of Lions.

As they describe themselves and their work on their website, “Being a Lion is about leading by example, building relationships and improving the world through kindness. It’s 1.4 million caring men and women serving together so they can make a lasting impact and change more lives.”

And there are younger branches as well, groups of student volunteers called “Leos,” which stands for “Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity.” Pasadena’s own group of student Leos, will host a Spring Story-Time and Craft Event for Kids on Saturday, April 24 at 12 PM.

Community members are invited  to join along on Zoom while volunteers read The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, followed by an interactive craft session for children, ages 5-10.

“This is so important,” said volunteer Diana Almanza, “because it benefits the  people who are in the club and they want to do their part, especially to create a  forum for the  children, and the young member also build their own skills in this format.”

The Pasadena Area Leo program is open to any high-school students in Pasadena. Any interested high school students are welcome to join during the 2021-2022 school year by completing a simple application. The volunteer program is a mix of virtual and in-person service opportunities, which allow students to create a positive impact in their community.

Students may visit the Pasadena Leos website at https://pasadenaleos.weebly.com/ for an application.
