“The Last Stargazers” Author Goes One-On-One in Conversation With Carnegie Observatories Director

Published on Feb 8, 2022

Emily Levesque, author of “The Last Stargazers,” will discuss her book in conversation with John Mulchaey, Director of the Carnegie Observatories, on the Pasadena Literary Alliance’s Open Book event Tuesday, June 14, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The event had to be rescheduled from Tuesday, Feb. 9, out of concern for the author, moderator and attendees. Tickets already purchased will be transferred to the new date, the organizers said.

“The Last Stargazers” shares the stories of modern-day stargazers, the people willing to adventure across high mountaintops and to some of the most remote corners of the planet, taking readers inside the most powerful telescopes in the world, and explores the future of astronomy as humans gain the ability to see farther beyond planet Earth than ever before. It’s a witty, honest, and engaging love letter to astronomy and the human role in scientific discovery.

The Last Stargazers is an Amazon Best Book of 2020, a Finalist for the PEN/E.O. Wilson Literary Science Writing Award, a Finalist for the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books, and a 2021 Alex Award official nominee.

Open Book is held on location at Carnegie Observatories, at 813 Santa Barbara Street in Pasadena. A pre-event hosted happy hour will allow you to mingle with the other participants, before the stellar discussion between Dr. Levesque and Dr. Mulchaey. Afterward, the author joins you for a dessert reception and book signing.
