Grammy-winning New York rockers The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem share a Pasadena stage on August 22 when the Just Like Heaven festival moves from its traditional May date to late summer for the first time in the event’s six-year history.
Goldenvoice, the AEG Presents subsidiary that promotes the single-day indie rock and dance festival, announced the lineup Monday. The bill features 20 musical acts and a returning DJ experience from A Club Called Rhonda, the Los Angeles-born pansexual dance collective. The August scheduling marks a departure for a festival that has been held in May every year since its 2019 debut at the Queen Mary Events Park in Long Beach, at Brookside at the Rose Bowl since 2022.
The undercard includes TV Girl, Chromeo, The Rapture, Feist, Twin Peaks, Matt and Kim, Dayglow, EKKSTACY, Coco & Clair Clair, George Clanton, Girl Tones, Pixel Grip, Porches, STRFKR, Tanlines, Them Jeans, This is Lorelei, and Whitney. The Heavenly Objects Market and Cosmic Kids also return.
Two bookings stand out. TV Girl will play what the Goldenvoice announcement described as the band’s only U.S. show of the year. Twin Peaks, the Chicago indie rock band largely inactive since 2020, will make what the announcement called their only show outside Chicago, where they sold out four nights at Thalia Hall for their reunion dates.
“The stars have aligned and delivered The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, TV Girl, Feist and so many more beloved indie, rock and dance artists to Brookside this August,” Stacy Vee, executive vice president at Goldenvoice, said in the announcement. “This is such a unique and special lineup, it all feels core Just Like Heaven but also entirely brand new at the same time.”
The Strokes won the Grammy for Best Rock Album in 2021 for “The New Abnormal.” Bassist Nikolai Fraiture pointed to the Pasadena setting in his statement: “We are looking forward to getting back to Pasadena to play at the Just Like Heaven Festival later this summer,” he said in the announcement.
General admission passes start at $209, up from $159 in 2024. VIP passes start at $439, and Clubhouse access runs $699 and is restricted to ages 21 and older. The Clubhouse includes an air-conditioned indoor lounge, upfront stage viewing, gourmet desserts, and wine tastings, according to the announcement. Payment plans are available with $49.99 down through April 1. The festival is otherwise all ages.
Goldenvoice announced additional accommodations for the summer date: more shade structures, more water refill stations, and bottled water available for $3.
The festival is one of several Goldenvoice productions held annually at Brookside, alongside Cruel World and Head in the Clouds. In partnership with the Rose Bowl Operating Company, Goldenvoice’s Pasadena festivals have donated $250,000 to the Eaton Fire Relief and Recovery Fund, according to the Pasadena Community Foundation. Start times, parking details, and public transit options for the August date have not yet been announced.
