We last visited U Street pizza in the spring just after their opening, and we could not have found a happier place, at least for us that evening.
When we learned they were expanding a new lunch menu, we made sure to be early in the queue if you will.
Marie Petulla and Executive Chef Chris Keyser began offering their NY/LA pizzas last spring, and we devoured a few on our last visit.
Now they’ve expanded to a new lunch menu, and once again, we’re not disappointed.
A range of square pizzas highlight the lunch offerings, with a variety of toppings, naturally, from margarita style to the usual toppings. The crust is puffy and thick, chewy but neither Napoli nor New York, exactly. It’s their own dough, which they’ve developed over some years of presumably delicious research.
Actually, we were pleasantly surprised by the green offerings to start the matinee. A caesar-style salad set the tone, along with grilled Brussel sprouts, which have inexplicably become a ‘thing” in the past few years. Both were delicious, and I’m not that big on greens. I prefer red, usually.
The pizzas (they served us two) were as delicious as we had hoped, and we found ourselves wondering why we had not returned here sooner.
We’ll remedy that soon enough.
