Descanso Gardens, a historic public garden in La Cañada Flintridge, has announced the return of its annual pumpkin extravaganza, “Carved,” from Oct. 4 to 30. The event, which transforms the gardens into a luminous wonderland, will feature an array of hand-carved pumpkins and whimsical installations.
Ticket sales for the popular autumn attraction will begin with a presale for members on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m., followed by general public sales on Aug. 13. Organizers emphasize that advanced tickets are required, as they will not be available for purchase at the venue.
This year’s “Carved” event promises to build upon previous successes with both returning favorites and new additions. Visitors can expect an expanded “Rhizome” installation by artists Tom and Lien Dekyvere in the Rose Garden Labyrinth and a large-scale Día de los Muertos “ofrenda” altar for reflection and remembrance.
A new Beer Garden on the Main Lawn will offer refreshments, a hay maze, and photo opportunities at a pumpkin house. The Descanso Railroad’s model trains will also be illuminated and operational during the event, adding to the festive atmosphere.
“We are thrilled to bring even more fun and wonder to our visitors with this year’s Carved event,” said Juliann Rooke, Descanso Gardens CEO. “From the dazzling pumpkin displays to the new Beer Garden and whimsical wood spirits, there is something for everyone to enjoy.”
A unique addition to this year’s festivities is the work of Chainsaw Jenna from Frizzleburg, Pennsylvania. The artist will create a family of wood spirits carved from five enormous logs, introducing an element of playful mischief to the event.
The “Carved” experience will run rain or shine, with timed entry slots available every half hour from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event itself will continue until 10 p.m. each night, providing ample opportunity for visitors to explore the illuminated gardens.
Ticket prices vary, with adult admission ranging from $28 to $38 for members and $35 to $45 for non-members. Children’s tickets are priced between $18 and $23 for members and $25 to $30 for non-members. Tickets are non-refundable.
Descanso Gardens, founded as a public garden in 1953, is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The garden offers membership options that include benefits such as free admission and early entry throughout the year.
