The California Institute of Technology will hold a public Shab-e Yalda celebration, a traditional Persian winter solstice festival, at the Hameetman Center on December 8, organizers announced.

The event, hosted by the Friends of Iranian Culture at California Institute of Technology Club, will run from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the center’s multipurpose room.

“We are thrilled to invite you to Shab-e Yalda, the ancient Persian celebration of the longest night of the year,” event organizers said in their announcement.

The celebration will feature great food, Persian music performances and a long session of Persian poetry reading, according to the Friends of Iranian Culture at California Institute of Technology Club’s event description.

“Space is limited to 75 attendees, so early registration is encouraged,” organizers said, with tiered pricing offering student tickets at $10, postdoctoral researcher admission at $15 and general entry at $20 per person.

Registration remains open until December 3 at 11:59 p.m., though organizers warn spots may fill before the deadline given the limited capacity. The event listing includes an “Add to Cal” function for attendees.

Organizers encourage sharing the invitation with friends and those seeking additional details can contact event organizers at ficcit@caltech.edu for more information about this cultural celebration.
