Pasadena’s longest-running performing arts society for women musicians does not charge admission, does not require reservations and does not stop for much. On Tuesday, May 5 at 12:30 p.m., the Tuesday Musicale of Pasadena returns to its first-Tuesday recital tradition with a free chamber program featuring members at the First Church of Christ, Scientist on South Oakland Avenue.

The program is unusually wide-ranging. It opens with Scott Joplin’s “The Strenuous Life” and “The Easy Winners,” then moves through Franz von Vecsey’s “Valse Triste,” Igor Frolov’s “Dansa Latina” and Alfred Schnittke’s “Polka.” A vocal segment includes “Un moto di gioia” from Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” and Giovanni Paisiello’s “Il mio ben quando verrà,” followed by Bizet’s “Ouvre ton coeur.” The recital closes with Mendelssohn’s “Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 14.”

Tuesday Musicale was founded to promote the knowledge, performance and enjoyment of music by its members and to encourage interest in music throughout the Pasadena community. The organization’s regular venue, the Pasadena Central Library, remains closed for seismic retrofitting, and its concerts have moved to First Church for the remainder of the season. Tuesday Musicale notes its gratitude to the church for that support, particularly in the wake of the Eaton Fire.

The Sunday School Room, where the recitals are held, is reached from the rear parking lot, and disabled parking is available there. Concerts continue once a month, with the season’s finale scheduled for Tuesday, June 2.

Tuesday Musicale of Pasadena will run on Tuesday, May 5 at 12:30 p.m. First Church of Christ, Scientist, 80 S. Oakland Ave., Pasadena. For more information, visit tuesdaymusicaleca.org. Admission is free.
