The Mixx, the restaurant and live-music room at 443 East Colorado Boulevard, holds a salsa and bachata night every Tuesday in the Playhouse Village district. The August 11 edition carries no cover charge, The Mixx said, though food and drinks cost extra. A dance lesson comes first. The social dancing follows, and the night runs to 12:00 a.m.
The venue sits four blocks from Old Pasadena, at the corner of Colorado Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue. Two Metro A Line stations — Memorial Park and Lake — serve the area, along with Pasadena Transit Routes 10 and 20 and Metro Micro, the on-demand rideshare service whose zone takes in Pasadena, Sierra Madre and Altadena, the unincorporated Los Angeles County community of roughly 43,000 directly north of the city.
The lessons are led by Rogelio Moreno, a Los Angeles-based dancer, instructor and choreographer who co-founded and directs the dance team Salsabor y Caché, according to the trade directory Salsa Vida. He has more than 30 years of performing and teaching experience, choreographed the Latin Grammy Awards and appeared as a featured dancer with Celia Cruz, according to his published biography. Music is handled by a DJ billed as Salsa y Sabor.
The Mixx calls the evening a “Tropical Tuesday” night and offers two-for-one drinks through the evening, free parking, and dinner and cocktail menus that include zero-proof cocktails.
Public parking in the district includes one hour of free street parking, a City-owned lot on South Madison Avenue with roughly 100 spaces, and a parking plaza at Union Street and El Molino Avenue near Playhouse Village Park, the Playhouse Village Association says.
The dance night is not an isolated booking. Salsa Mixx repeats August 18, August 25 and September 1, according to the association.
The venue opened in 2017 under owner Ed Minassian, who had run an earlier Pasadena nightlife venture, Live Mixx, beginning in 2001, Los Angeles magazine reported in September 2024. A remodel added a large LED wall behind the stage, and the venue’s programming was built to sit apart from the bars a few blocks west, the magazine reported.
“We decided not to compete with the rest of Colorado Blvd,” Ané Uno, head of talent at The Mixx, said in a 2024 interview with the magazine.

The music stops at midnight. Then the calendar turns over, and the following Tuesday the lesson starts again from the basic step.
