“Serenade Under the Sycamores” runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and features Los Angeles artists Brighton Thomas and Louis Cheong. Their set moves across soul, jazz, classic rock, rhythm and blues, and indie, built on vocals and guitar, with material the organizers describe as both nostalgic and original.
The presenting partners come at community music from different directions. Clazzical Notes programs live music in neighborhood settings around Pasadena. Pasadena Village is a nonprofit serving adults 55 and older, built on the idea that people age better when they stay connected to the neighborhoods they already live in — the same organization sponsoring Monday’s Red Cross blood drive at the Collaboratory in Altadena.
Free outdoor concerts have multiplied across the San Gabriel Valley this summer, but the sycamore grove at Washington Park is a different setting than a bandshell or a plaza. It is a neighborhood park with picnic tables, ballfields and a creek crossing, and the concert is scaled to it: one hour, two performers, no stage production to speak of.
