Cheng, a Los Angeles-based artist, brings a thoughtful perspective to her teaching. Her work explores mental health themes, interpreting real places and creatures she’s seen on her mental health walks around Highland Park through her paintings.
“Nighttime transforms the way we perceive our surroundings and process emotions,” Cheng has said. “The dark magnifies moments of introspection, nostalgia, and even regret or resolve, making space for deeper reflection.”
The workshop takes place at Pasadena Humane’s historic Raymond Avenue facility, completed in 1932 and recognized as a Cultural Heritage Landmark by the City of Pasadena in 1986.
Founded in 1903, the organization helped more than 55,000 animals in 2024 through adoptions, wildlife rehabilitation, lost & found services, veterinary services, training classes, and surrender prevention assistance. Its mission: “To lead the way toward a compassionate and caring community for all animals.”
