Always making the right food choices can be daunting. Add Lent to the mix, and the equation gets tricker. Vallarta Supermarkets might make decision making in that regard just a little easier.

Just in time for Lent—February 26 to April 12— the store will be adding new options for those observing Lent.

“Many of our customers give up eating meat during Lent,” said Andrew Lewis, Vice President of Marketing, Vallarta Supermarkets, recently.

“Now they’ll be able to enjoy their traditional favorites, like tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and more without giving up taste and still observing Lent.”

The new menu items will be available across all 50 stores and various in-store departments, including La Cocina, Cevichería, Pescadería, Grab & Go, and the Cremería.

Beyond Meat is now being offered as a protein substitute option at La Cocina at all Vallarta Supermarkets. Now you can snag a “carnitas” torta or “carne asada” taco with Beyond Beef. Beyond Meat will now be available year-round and it’s currently available in the grocery freezer aisle, if you want to mix put something healthy together at home.

But let’s talk shrimp. Because shrimp.

Vallarta’s La Cocina will offer Tortas de Camarón (shrimp patties) as well as battered or grilled fish and shrimp in crispy tacos, burritos, tortas and quesadillas. You can get ‘em a la carte or in dinner combos with rice, pico de gallo, beans, creamy slaw, chips and avocado sauce.

La Cocina’s Lent menu will be available from February 26 through March 1,2020, after that the items will be available Friday-Sunday.

The Pescadería (seafood department) regularly offers refreshing varieties of ceviche, from fish, shrimp, imitation crab, and seafood mixtures. Available at all store locations:

The Pescadería also offers stir fry items for costumers to take home, heat for a few minutes, serve and enjoy.
New items will also be found at the popular Cevichería (ceviche section), where the ceviche is made fresh daily in store, several times throughout the day. Free samples are available so customers can choose their favorite.
Another Lent favorite, Milk Capirotada (bread pudding), will also be available on weekends (Fri-Sun) in Vallarta’s in-house kitchen, La Cocina. Other new Cremería items such as shrimp cake, potato cake and seafood cake will be available all Lent season.

Ready Grab & Go featured new items include Stuffed Avocado Ceviche, with options of shrimp, fish or crab. You can also get Ceviches in a cup, already prepared in a ready-to-go container. Options include a la Diabla, Shrimp Avocado & Mango, Shrimp & Scallop, and Campechana.

The limited-time Lent menu will launch store-wide on February 26 and will last the entire Lent season through April 12, 2020.
