Just outside Pasadena’s western edge, a new cannabis dispensary is making waves locally for “putting people and their unique vibes first.”

With their customer count growing every week, Velvet Cannabis General Manager Priscilla Alkais told Pasadena Now that since opening in October they are “doing great” and seeing a lot of locals and new regulars.

“Working with the community in Pasadena been very fruitful,” Alkais said.

The Eagle Rock store, at 1118 Colorado Blvd. just a few blocks west of the Pasadena border, is the second location for owners Matt Morea and Farid Harrison following the opening of their first store in Martinez in 2018. Its grand opening was on Oct. 8.

Alkais said Velvet Cannabis was very well received by the community.

“I think that the overall reception has been great because people really love our menu and I think they also really love to shop in a dispensary that’s open and beautiful and well lit – a lot of sunlight with knowledgeable ‘budtenders,’” she said, using the cannabis equivalent for “bartenders.”

On Thanksgiving Day, Velvet Cannabis will be open 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

After Thanksgiving, the store will announce great promotionals for the holiday season. Alkais said they will definitely continue weekend promos possibly through the end of the year.

Last month, Velvet Cannabis President and COO Matt Morea said they’re welcoming customers to a clean and friendly environment everytime the customers walk into their two stores.

“We’re going to ask a couple of questions, understand what brings you in, and we’re going to do our very best to introduce you to some products that we think are going to solve whatever your need is,” Morea said. “The one thing I’m most proud of that Velvet does is create a safe space for everyone, no matter who.”
