Volkswagen of America has announced official pricing and updates for the refreshed 2025 Golf GTI and Golf R, which feature increased performance, updated technology, and new safety enhancements.

The Golf R, now producing 328 horsepower—13 more than its predecessor—becomes the most powerful production Golf model ever offered by Volkswagen. The GTI also receives notable refinements, including new exterior design elements and a more advanced infotainment system.

Announced on Feb. 12, the updated models highlight Volkswagen’s focus on blending driver engagement with modern technology. The 2025 Golf R starts at $47,100, while a Black Edition trim, featuring gloss black accents and carbon fiber detailing, raises the price to $48,415. The GTI remains a more accessible alternative, available in S, SE, and Autobahn trims, priced at $32,445, $37,420, and $40,880, respectively.

Both models sport exterior updates, including redesigned front bumpers, new LED headlights, an illuminated Volkswagen emblem, and newly introduced color options—Alpine Silver Metallic and Slate Blue Metallic. The Golf R sets itself apart with lightweight 19-inch forged alloy wheels, reducing unsprung weight by 20% to improve handling.

Inside, a freestanding 12.9-inch touchscreen now houses Volkswagen’s latest MIB3 operating system, which features faster software and a more intuitive layout, as stated in the manufacturer’s release. Hard buttons replace the previously criticized haptic touch controls on the steering wheel, and a 15-watt ventilated wireless charging pad is now standard. Volkswagen’s generative AI-powered Plus Speech voice assistant is available through a subscription in the myVW mobile app.

Safety enhancements are also present across all trims. IQ.DRIVE, Volkswagen’s driver-assistance suite, comes standard, featuring adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, emergency braking and the newly introduced Park Assist Plus, which aids in semi-autonomous parking. Additionally, new safety essentials—including a first aid kit, warning triangle and safety vest—are now standard features.

Performance remains central to the Golf R and GTI experience. The Golf R’s turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is paired exclusively with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. The GTI retains its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with an available DCC adaptive damping system for enhanced ride comfort in the Autobahn trim. The top-tier Autobahn trim also adds 19-inch alloy wheels with summer performance tires, heated rear seats and a head-up display.

For purists, the optional Euro Style Package offers fabric seats, a sunroof delete and an Akrapovič titanium exhaust system, which reduces weight by 15 pounds while delivering a sharper exhaust note.

Volkswagen’s latest updates aim to refine and enhance its iconic hot hatch models, incorporating increased horsepower, updated technology, and new safety features as outlined in the official announcement. With increased power, sharper aesthetics and user-focused improvements, the 2025 Golf R and GTI continue to cater to driving enthusiasts and everyday commuters alike.
