Published on Aug 29, 2024

Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena is hosting “A Special Musical Storytime” in collaboration with the Pasadena Conservatory of Music on Saturday, Sept. 7. The event, scheduled for 11:30 a.m., will center around Dr. Seuss’s book “My Many Colored Days.”

Children aged 3-9 and their caregivers are invited to participate in a multifaceted program that includes storytelling, craft activities, creative movement, and a mini-concert. The event aims to engage young attendees through a combination of literature and music.

“My Many Colored Days,” written by Dr. Seuss and illustrated by Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher, explores concepts of colors and emotions. The book features imaginative type designs and die-cut squares on its cover, making it suitable for babies learning about colors and toddlers exploring feelings and moods.

The book was first published in 1998 by Knopf Books for Young Readers.

Dr. Seuss, born Theodor Seuss Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904, was a prolific author and illustrator of children’s books. His works, including “The Cat in the Hat,” have become staples in children’s literature and education.

Steve Johnson, born in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, began his career in children’s book illustration in 1989. Johnson and his wife, Lou Fancher, have since become sought-after artists in the field of children’s literature.

This is a free event and will take place at Vroman’s Bookstore, located at 695 E. Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena. This musical storytime offers a unique opportunity for families to engage with literature and music in an interactive setting.
