Author and Washington Post columnist Karen Tumulty will talk about her book, “The Triumph of Nancy Reagan,” from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 5 to 6 p.m., during an online event sponsored by The Friends of the Pasadena Public Library.

From the AIDS epidemic to tensions with the Soviets and the war on drugs, the book shows how Nancy Reagan became one of the most influential First Ladies in U.S. history.
The author spent four years interviewing the people who knew this couple best and draws on overlooked archives, letters, memoirs, and White House records, compiling the most extensive biography of Nancy Reagan yet.
Before joining the Post, Tumulty wrote for Time from October 1994 to April 2010. She was a congressional correspondent, as well as the national political correspondent based in Washington D.C. for the magazine.
Tumulty graduated from David Crockett High School in Austin, Texas in May 1973. She later graduated in 1977 from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Journalism with high honors; she is an alumna of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
She wrote for The Daily Texan student newspaper. In 1981, she received an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Tumulty is married to Paul Richter and has two sons, Nicholas and Jack.
