Wear an Ugly Christmas Sweater and Win a Prize

Friday, Dec. 18, is National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day, and the city of Pasadena wants to give you some prizes for showing your holiday spirit while practicing safe alternatives.

So if you’re wearing an ugly Christmas sweater on Friday, or anytime until Jan. 1, snap a pic and submit it to the city for a chance to win some great prizes, including a Rose Bowl Stadium VIP Tour.

This “Safe at Home for the Holidays” photo contest welcomes any entry photo that shows you and your family and friends celebrating the holidays safely.

In the home, besides hosting a virtual ugly sweater party on Zoom with cousins celebrating elsewhere, decorating the house or unwrapping presents on Christmas Day would surely make for good photo ops that will qualify for this contest.

In a recent advisory, the Pasadena Department of Public Health published a list of holiday activities that are currently permitted – and advised – so that you help minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19.

These include online parties and contests, car parades that comply with public health guidance including drive-thru celebrations or contests where individuals dress up or decorate their vehicles and drive-thru “judges” that are appropriately physically distanced or in vehicles, and holiday-themed meals at restaurants for takeout or delivery.

Again, snapshots of these events where you’re participating will definitely qualify as good entries to the contest.

There are plenty of safe alternatives to celebrate the holidays with our loved ones this year and keep each other healthy. Pore over the Public Health Department’s advisory here and get guidance on what’s safe and what’s not allowed.

To join the contest, take those great photos and submit them for a chance to win any of these prizes: a Rose Bowl Stadium VIP tour on the date of your choice, a Limited Edition mini Rose Bowl Stadium football helmet, or a Pasadena Convention Center and Visitors Bureau tote bag, mug and greeting card set.

To submit your photo, go to www.cityofpasadena.net/covid-19/safe-at-home-holidays and use the upload space on the page. Don’t forget to fill out the submission form and click Submit. Photos must be in .jpg or .png formats only.

Photo submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. PST on Jan. 1. Winners will be selected at random on a rolling basis through Jan. 2 to receive a prize. Your photos may also be chosen to be featured on the city’s social media channels.

You can also simply post your photo to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #HealthyHolidaysPasadena.
