What We’re watching: ‘F9′ Beats Out `Boss Baby 2’ As Box Office Revs Up

“F9” continued to outpace the competition at the box office, grossing $24 million in its second weekend of release, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

The latest entry in the long-running and hugely profitable “Fast & Furious” franchise was expected to clear $32 million over the extended four-day holiday weekend at theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported.

Second place went to “The Boss Baby 2: Family Business,” which took in $17.3 million Friday through Sunday in its opening weekend.

Third place went to another franchise entry, “The Forever Purge,” which opened with $12.75 million.

A couple more sequels were next, with “A Quiet Place Part II” at $4.22 million and “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” at $3 million.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “Cruella” ($2.55 million), “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway” ($2.25 million), “The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It” ($1.29 million), “In the Heights” ($1.275 million) and “Zola” ($1.23 million).
