“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” opened atop the box office this weekend, grossing $43 million at North American theaters, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
The latest installment in the Harry Potter franchise beat out last weekend’s top-grossing film, “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” which made $30 million in its second weekend in theaters, Comscore reported.
“The Lost City” was third with $6.5 million Friday through Sunday in its fourth weekend.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” was fourth with $6.1 million in its fourth week of release, followed by the faith-based drama “Father Stu” starring Mark Wahlberg, which opened with $5.7 million.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “Morbius” ($4.7 million), “Ambulance” ($4 million), “The Batman” ($3.8 million), “K.G.F: Chapter 2” ($2.8 million) and “Uncharted” ($1.1 million).
