“The Batman” comfortably kept its hold atop the box office, raking in $66 million in its second weekend at North American theaters, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
Warner Bros.’ nearly 3-hour reboot of its caped crusader franchise was directed by Matt Reeves and stars Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano and Colin Farrell. It made $128.5 million last weekend for the second-biggest opening of any film in the pandemic era, trailing only “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which made about $260 million in its opening weekend in December.
The film’s grosses are being goosed a bit by the fact that theaters in the AMC chain have charged more for “The Batman” than for other films.
“Uncharted” was a distant second place with $9.2 million in its fourth week in theaters, Comscore reported.
In third place was “BTS Permission to Dance on Stage: Seoul,” a live film of the Korean band’s Saturday night concert that made $6.8 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada.
“Dog” was fourth with $5.3 million in its fourth week.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” was fifth, grossing another $4 million and bringing its 13-week domestic total to $792 million, third all-time.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “Death on the Nile” ($2.5 million), “Radhe Shyam” ($1.8 million), “Sing 2” ($1.5 million), “Jackass Forever” ($1.1 million) and “Scream” ($445,000).
