The free event on October 6 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. features Freddie the Fire Engine, an interactive robot designed for children’s safety education, alongside storytime, crafts and giveaways. Real Pasadena firefighters will join the program targeting ages zero through nine and caregivers.
The timing highlights this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme: “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” running October 5 to 11.
“Lithium-ion batteries are powerful, convenient, and they’re just about everywhere,” said Lorraine Carli, vice president of outreach and advocacy at the National Fire Protection Association.
The event connects to the Pasadena Fire Department’s “Learn Not to Burn” program serving children from preschool through sixth grade. Fire Chief Chad Augustin highlighted community preparedness in recent communications about fire safety initiatives.
The Hill Avenue Branch, designed by Pasadena architectural firm Marston, Van Pelt and Maybury, houses 32,109 collection items in its 4,752-square-foot historic building.
