The Huntington’s Twilight Garden Estate Tours, scheduled for August 1 at 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., offer exclusive after-hours exploration connecting participants to the sweeping historical movements that shaped Southern California.
These 90-minute docent-led walking tours reveal how the Huntingtons transformed their San Marino ranch into a world-famous cultural landmark.
“Opening in the evening allows us to welcome more visitors who can enjoy green spaces and see our gardens in quite literally a different light,” according to recent coverage.
Evening light casts botanical collections in warm, golden tones highlighting textures and colors invisible during standard visits.
“The Desert Garden is one of my favorites. There’s something really lovely about the unusual shapes and colors matched with the warm tones of sunset during summer,” noted one observer.
These tours address universal questions about cultural preservation and philanthropy’s role in the arts, examining how individual vision creates lasting societal impact.
The experience encourages contemplation of landscape as both artistic expression and historical document.
Tickets are $49 for adults and $39 for children, and must be purchased in advance as no walk-up tickets are available.
Tickets are non-transferable and nonrefundable.
Participants should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled tour time.
“Twilight Garden Estate Tours” will run on Friday, Aug. 1 at 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, 1151 Oxford Rd., San Marino.
