Celebrated whitewater rafting guide Bridget Crocker will discuss her newly released memoir “The River’s Daughter” at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena on Monday, June 16 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will feature Crocker in conversation with Jim Benning, offering insights into her journey from a tumultuous childhood to becoming a world-class expedition leader.

“This memoir by legendary river guide Crocker runs fast and deep. Whitewater scenes are electrifying and precise. But there are also profound personal matters here—pockets of fear or joy and even love—that add a shimmering depth,” says Tim Cahill, author of “Jaguars Ripped My Flesh.”

Published by Spiegel & Grau on June 3,”The River’s Daughter” chronicles Crocker’s transformation from her early years in Southern California and Wyoming to leading expeditions on rivers including the Snake, the Kern, and Zambia’s Zambezi.

The memoir explores resilience and healing, detailing how Crocker overcame abuse and worked to break generational cycles of trauma.

The book addresses environmental and cultural themes, connecting to urgent issues facing public lands and gender in adventure sports. Early reviewers note trigger warnings related to domestic abuse and sexual assault.

Kirkus Reviews describes the book as “a brave, sincere story of the shattering and saving powers of adrenaline and humility.” Critics have compared it to memoirs like “Wild” and “Educated” for its inspiring narrative about overcoming hardship through nature.

Crocker, who resides in Malibu, has contributed to Lonely Planet guidebooks and various publications including National Geographic Adventure and Outside.

The Vroman’s event will include a discussion, Q&A, and book signing. The memoir is available for $30.00.
