South Pasadena’s acclaimed Wine & Song songwriter showcase will celebrate its 16th anniversary on Oct. 8 with a special concert in the courtyard behind Square Deal Barbershop, 1108 Mission Street. Since 2009, this weekly Wednesday night series has highlighted original music and authentic storytelling by touring singer-songwriters from across the United States and beyond, cultivating an audience that values the stories and real-life experiences behind the songs. The event honors the longevity of the series and the strong community it has built among artists and music lovers alike.

According to the official press release, the series has always drawn “the kind of listening-room audiences Colerick has cultivated — where people hang on every word. Not to hear the hits, but to hear the stories and great songs of the road, chronicling real life and the joys and struggles therein.”

Over sixteen years, Wine & Song has featured Grammy winners, Voice contestants and countless notable performances at twenty-two different locations throughout South Pasadena, including The Blue Guitar Room at Arroyo Seco Golf Course, the former Firefly Bistro, The Lost Parrot, The Daily and WineStyles—where it all started. Colerick, with decades in the music industry, has curated a space designed especially for under-the-radar, working-class musicians seeking authentic listening audiences. For six years before the pandemic, shows were held at The Blue Guitar Room, and Colerick also hosted Jazz at the Blue Guitar every Thursday night.

The anniversary lineup spotlights Wine & Song’s community focus. South Pasadena-based group Sycamore & Ash, featuring David Landau on cello and vocals and Molly Oran on guitar and vocals, will perform alongside Brian Whelan—a former Dwight Yoakam sideman who lost his home in the Eaton fire and now resides locally. Jake Manzi, joined by Caleb Rosazza, will also play. Brad Colerick will take the stage with the Wine & Song house band: David Plenn and Peter Freiberger. Surprise guests, a hallmark of Wine & Song, may appear throughout the night.

Tickets for the Oct. 8 show are $25, available at https://wineandsong.com. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the performance set for 7 p.m.

Billboard Magazine named Brad Colerick “One of a baker’s dozen of acts to watch in the folk community around the world.” The Pasadena Weekly has called Wine & Song “an inviting community hub for musicians, songwriters, wine-geeks and music fans.” For more information, the press release lists Brad Colerick’s contact as (323) 769-3500.
