The Pasadena Public Library is inviting community members to explore their personal narratives through a memoir writing workshop taught by acclaimed author Frances Noble. The free “Write Your Life” class welcomes both beginning and experienced writers interested in developing their memoir writing skills.
Frances Noble, also published under the name Frances Khirallah Noble, brings substantial literary credentials to the workshop. She is the author of three published books addressing themes central to personal narrative and cultural identity: “The Situe Stories” (2000), a short fiction collection exploring Arab-American life; “The New Belly Dancer of the Galaxy: A Novel” (2007), which examines the post-9/11 Arab-American experience; and “Blanket of Stars: Homeless Women in Santa Monica” (2010). Two of her books—”The Situe Stories” and “The New Belly Dancer of the Galaxy”—were published by Syracuse University Press as part of its Arab American Writing Series. “Blanket of Stars” was published by Angel City Press.
Noble has taught the memoir writing course at the Lamanda Park Branch previously, with sessions offered in May and June, as well as in July and August. Participants will “together learn and discover how to write your memoir for new and seasoned writers,” according to the library’s Instagram announcement.
The Lamanda Park Branch Library is housed in a building completed in October 1967, designed by Pulliam, Zimmerman and Matthews, Architects and Planners. The library’s meeting room accommodates up to 34 participants and offers services in both English and Spanish.
“Write Your Life” will run on Friday, December 5 at 11:00 a.m. Lamanda Park Branch Library, 140 South Altadena Drive, Pasadena, California. For more information, call (626) 744-7266 or visit https://www.cityofpasadena.net/library/?trumbaEmbed=view%3Devent%26eventid%3D190996239.
