When Alan Chapman takes the stage Thursday afternoon at the Pasadena Senior Center, the Yale-trained music theorist will transform two hours into a multimedia journey through Spanish musical heritage.
Chapman, a “Masters Series favorite” who “shares his encyclopedic knowledge of music in six multimedia presentations filled with musical examples and vibrant visuals,” returns to the Senior Center’s Summer Masters Series on August 21 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for “Some Spaniards.”
The Colburn Conservatory faculty member and Classical KUSC (91.5 FM) host/programmer brings both scholarly credentials — a Ph.D. in music theory from Yale University and undergraduate degree from MIT — and performance experience to his presentations.
Chapman and his wife, soprano Karen Benjamin, have shared stages at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Town Hall.
This presentation marks another installment in Chapman’s acclaimed series that has made him a fixture at the Senior Center for more than four decades.
His multimedia approach combines musical examples with vibrant visuals to make complex musical concepts accessible to general audiences.
