Laurie Santos, creator of Yale University’s most popular course in over 300 years, will explore the science of happiness and well-being at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Wednesday, January 14 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series.
Santos, the Chandrika and Ranjan Tandon Professor of Psychology at Yale, teaches “Psychology and the Good Life”—a course that has drawn nearly 25 percent of the university’s student body since its debut. Her podcast, “The Happiness Lab,” ranks as a top three Apple podcast with over 100 million downloads since its launch.
The event at the Mediterranean Revival venue—a 3,000-seat auditorium that opened in 1932 and ranks among America’s most revered performance halls—is part of the Distinguished Speaker Series. The presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. and runs through 9 p.m., featuring a one-hour presentation followed by a 30-minute moderated question-and-answer session.
“She makes the case that humans are drastically wrong about what makes us happy and often do the exact opposite of what will make our lives better,” according to promotional materials for the event.
Santos’s work has earned coverage from major media outlets including The New York Times, NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, GQ, Slate, and O! Magazine. The event is sold as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series package only; individual speaker tickets are not available for purchase.
