Children ages six to twelve can bring their homemade LEGO spacecraft creations to be judged during designated windows—today from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.—or build something on-site with guidance from a LEGOLAND Master Model Builder.
Winners, to be announced February 5, will receive a two-night stay at the LEGOLAND Hotel, four annual passes for their family, and the chance to ride the coaster on opening day.
“Parents and educators know how important it is for children to be active, joyful, hands-on learners,” said Lisa Clements, Kidspace’s chief executive officer. “Kidspace is built on the idea that play is a powerful tool for discovery.”
The contest ties into LEGO Galaxy, a new themed land celebrating the original LEGO space sets from the 1970s. Galacticoaster will reach speeds up to 40 miles per hour along 1,500 feet of track, with riders customizing digital spacecraft from 625 unique combinations.
Entries are judged by panels consisting of a LEGOLAND Master Model Builder, a museum representative, and an expert from Blue Origin’s Club for the Future. Children can also submit one- to two-minute videos, with all entries due Saturday.
LEGOLAND Junior Galaxy Explorers will run on Friday, Jan. 30, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kidspace Children’s Museum, 480 N. Arroyo Blvd., Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 449-9144 or visit https://kidspacemuseum.org/event/legoland-junior-galaxy-explorers/. Ticket prices: $15.50 for adults and children ages 1 and older, $13.50 for seniors 62 and older.
