Children can sharpen their strategic thinking skills while making new friends at Chess Knights, a free program offered by Pasadena Public Library on Friday, November 14, at 4 p.m.
The session will take place at Lamanda Park Branch Library, 140 South Altadena Drive, in Pasadena. No chess experience is required—beginners are welcome to come and learn.
“Kids, cultivate strategy and critical thinking while you’re having fun playing chess and making friends,” according to the program announcement.
The Chess Knights program is part of the library’s extensive community programming. Pasadena Public Library offered 1,962 programs in Fiscal Year 2024 across all branch locations and circulated 627,439 library books, DVDs, and other resources in Fiscal Year 2024.
Summer 2025 Chess Knights sessions were held on Fridays at La Pintoresca Branch Library, located at 1355 N Raymond Avenue.
Research supports the educational benefits of chess instruction for young people. A July study published in “Frontiers in Developmental Psychology” indicates that chess instruction can effectively exercise children’s attention, memory, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
