The Big Day is Here! Your Guide to Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Events

Published on Dec 28, 2022

Whether you’re a Pasadena resident or a visitor, you should consider enjoying some of the many events before and after the actual Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl Game on Monday.

To help you plan, here’s a list of those events:

134th Rose Parade, presented by Honda – Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, 8 a.m.

More than a century after the first Tournament of Roses, the 134th Rose Parade begins at 8 a.m. on Monday at the corner of Green Street and Orange Grove Blvd. in Pasadena. The earliest Tournament of Roses welcomed 3,000 spectators and was filled with orange-blossom-bedecked, horse-drawn carriages. Now, the parade floats are a marvel of state of the art technology, all tucked away beneath flowers and other all-natural materials.

The parade travels north on Orange Grove at a leisurely 2.5-mile per hour pace and then turns east onto Colorado Blvd., where the majority of the parade viewing takes place. Near the end of the route, the parade turns north onto Sierra Madre Blvd. and concludes at Villa Street. Thousands of visitors experience the beauty of the floral floats along with spirited marching bands and high-stepping equestrian units along the 5.5-mile route down Colorado Blvd., while millions worldwide watch the event unfold on TV.

Grandstand seating is available throughout the parade route, with grandstands grouped into five areas. Near the end of the route, the parade turns north onto Sierra Madre Blvd. and concludes at Villa Street.

FloatFest: A Rose Parade Showcase – Monday, Jan. 2 to Tuesday, Jan. 3 all day

Following their appearance on the Rose Parade, all participating floats will be on display on FloatFest: A Rose Parade Showcase, at E. Sierra Madre Blvd and E. Washington Blvd. Each year, nearly 70,000 visitors head to FloatFest for the chance to walk within a few feet of the floats and appreciate up close the creativity and detail of each magnificent display. Participating float exhibitors can engage with event attendees in this event’s family-friendly, celebratory environment.

You are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes as there are no trams and seating is limited. Viewing all the floats will require walking a distance of approximately 2.5 miles and will take at least two hours. The venue is often crowded and you will be walking and viewing at a leisurely pace.

109th Rose Bowl Game, presented by Prudential Financial – Monday, Jan. 2, kickoff at 2 p.m.

The Rose Bowl Stadium parking lots open at 4 a.m. Stadium gates open at 11:30 a.m. and pre-game activities start at 1 p.m. Pre-game activities include tailgates, Rose Queen and Royal Court appearances, and more. Kickoff in the match between Penn State Nittany Lions and the Utah Utes is a 2 p.m.

The Rose Bowl Stadium is located at 1001 Rose Bowl Drive in Pasadena. General parking is available at the Rose Bowl in Lots H, 1 to 4, 6, and 8 to 10. Driving to the Rose Bowl Stadium can be very difficult due to general Los Angeles traffic and heavy Rose Parade and game day traffic flowing in and out of Pasadena. Please consider carpooling, using public transportation or the free shuttle service. Heightened security may also slow your entrance into the stadium.
