Zoom In Close Up on Alfred Hitchcock’s Films, Where Murder Can Be Fun

Published on Mar 12, 2023

The world continues to change and progress but some things never go out of style. Alfred Hitchcock’s movies are just such a thing. Almost a hundred years after his first directing credit, Hitchcock’s films remain popular, thrilling, and terrifying audiences worldwide.

Hitchcock’s approach to cinema, as well as his personal fears and obsessions, were woven into his classic movies, making them the gold standard for suspense and creating a lasting legacy that endures to this day.

And now, as part of its MASTER SERIES Spring Term 2023, the Pasadena Senior Center (PSC) is offering a unique opportunity to explore the secrets of Hitchcock’s cinema in a lecture titled “Murder Can Be Fun: Alfred Hitchcock and the Secrets of his Cinema.”

Presented by Emmy-nominated producer Steven C. Smith, this lecture will take a close look at Hitchcock’s work, exploring the methods of his genius and uncovering the reasons why audiences still adore his glamorous “slices of cake.”

The lecture, which takes place on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., will delve into the many aspects of Hitchcock’s work. From his use of suspense to his portrayal of romance, adventure, deceit, and murder, each lecture will examine a different facet of Hitchcock’s genius. And, of course, no discussion of Hitchcock’s cinema would be complete without mention of his many classics, including “Psycho,” “Vertigo,” “Rear Window,” “North by Northwest,” “The Birds,” and many more.

As Hitchcock himself once said, “There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it.” It is this anticipation, this building of suspense, that has made Hitchcock’s movies stand the test of time. And it is this same sense of anticipation that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats during this lecture, as they explore the many secrets of Hitchcock’s cinema.

Registration is required for the lecture, and interested parties can use the registration button on the PSC website to receive the Zoom link. With a cost of $35.00 to $45.00, the lecture promises to be a fascinating and entertaining look into one of cinema’s true giants.
