The 2023 Hyundai Elantra N impresses with its dynamic performance, nimbly navigating twists and turns while accelerating with vigor on straight paths. Its engaging drive is further enhanced by an eight-speed automatic transmission and a distinct exhaust sound that strikes a fine balance between being spirited and slightly brash. Inside, the vehicle continues to embody its spirited essence with a bold dashboard design, sport seats with significant support, and prominent N branding. Beyond its spirited demeanor, the Elantra N stands out as a spacious and comfortable four-door sedan. If you like your family sedan with a dash of pizazz look no further than the Elantra N.

The Elantra N rides on 19-inch alloy wheels paired with high-performance summer tires. Enhanced braking capabilities, a variable sport exhaust system, and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential are included to improve traction during fun driving. The suspension system is upgraded with the advanced rear setup found in the N Line, complemented by adaptive dampers for a tailored driving experience. Aesthetically, it distinguishes itself with a unique face, an Elantra N-specific steering wheel, and sport front seats designed with extra bolstering to provide support when taking the Elantra N through its paces.

The model boasts a robust turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers an impressive 276 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque. Buyers have the option between a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. My model came equipped with the automatic which performed admirably. I’m not a manual transmission purist when it comes to high performance cars, as long as the shifts are smooth and swift I’m happy. Expect to get 20/city, 30/highway and 23/combined MPG.

The Elantra N provides generous space for occupants in both the front and back seats. Adjusting to a comfortable driving position is straightforward, thanks to the broad adjustability range of the driver’s seat and steering wheel. It’s great that Hyundai continues to incorporate tangible buttons for easier use while driving.

It’s a bit noisy, a bit bumpy in the cabin, but that’s the price you pay for a sports suspension and a throatier engine. When at highway speeds the Elantra N shows its softer side by relaxing into the ride.

A sporty roadster, a passenger car? Only you can decide. I think it’s both!
