Pasadena Kicks Off Latino Heritage Month with Virtual Scavenger Hunt

Pasadena’s Latino Heritage Committee, in collaboration with the city’s Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department, will be celebrating Latino Heritage Month with a series of culturally rich virtual events that highlight Latino and Hispanic traditions, culminating with a drive-in movie celebrating Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), featuring Disney’s movie “Coco” on Friday, Oct. 30.

From Oct. 1 to 17, a Latino Heritage Scavenger Hunt will feature clues that highlight Pasadena locations that are of significance to the Latino community. Clues will be delivered through video clips featuring local dignitaries and great prizes will be awarded. 

On Saturday, Oct. 3, a “Lil’ Libros” Virtual Loteria for Children will be held for kids 3 and up on Zoom, starting at 10 a.m. Registration is required.

Next Friday, Oct. 9, Loteria Game Night, a Virtual Loteria, will be on Zoom starting at 6:30 p.m. This is for ages 15 and up and registration is required.

Lil’ Libros Bilingual Storytime, featuring “Super Torta,” will be read by author and illustrator Eric Ramos on Zoom on at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. 

A “Best of” compilation of past Latino Heritage Parade hit videos will be shown online on Saturday, Oct. 17, explaining the history and significance of the Latino Heritage Parade. These include fan-favorite clips from past parades. The show begins at 10 a.m. Check the Latino Heritage Committee page on Facebook, www.facebook.com/PasadenaLHP, for updates. 

On Oct. 24, Arts and Craft with Mercadito Monarca will feature Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) arts and crafts projects, virtually. Kits will be available for pick-up after registration and are good while supplies last. Participants will make the craft along with virtual instruction. Registration is required. The event begins at 10 a.m. 

A virtual cooking demonstration, “Concinando con El Cholo Sabor Latino,” will highlight a delicious cultural dish at 10 a.m. Oct. 27. The recipe will be shared with participants so they can follow along. Follow updates on Facebook, www.facebook.com/PasadenaLHP

And finally, “Coco” by Disney will be shown at dusk on Friday, Oct. 30.
