Two New Sources for Book Recommendations from the South Pasadena Public Library

The South Pasadena Public Library has added two new databases to the Library online resources including NoveList Plus and BookBrowse. Both of these databases are excellent resources for book groups or any avid reader looking for a good book to read next.

NoveList Plus is a valuable tool for identifying books of a similar style, known as read-alikes, to books that have already been read. For example, readers who enjoyed Alan Bradley’s Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie series will get read-alike book recommendations for each title in the series, the author and the series itself. NoveList Plus also provides recommended reading lists, book discussion guides, and book reviews for titles across all ages. This database goes beyond mere genre definitions and identifies writing style, tone and storyline descriptors as another way to find books that appeal to a certain type of reader.

BookBrowse features top title picks each week and every entry title contains a book summary, excerpt, reading guide, reviews, author biographies, interviews and read-alike recommendations. Users can opt-in to a bi-monthly email newsletter and can participate in an online book discussion group. There is also a link to see if a particular title is in the South Pasadena Public Library collection.

These new databases and many practical, powerful others are available at www.southpasadenaca.gov/library, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. At the bottom of the home page, the “Online Resources” link will show a list of all the library databases with a description.
