Gamble House Transforms Into Serene Friday Night Retreat from May to September

Published on Apr 28, 2024

Pasadena’s historic Gamble House is set to transform its iconic grounds into a serene retreat every second Friday starting on May 10 through Sept. 13, with its “Friday Nights at The Gamble House with Highland Park Wine” series, featuring wine tastings, live music performances, and exploratory tours – a delightful fusion of cultural immersion and leisurely relaxation.

“Friday Nights” will be on the second Friday of the month from May 10 and run from 5:30 p.m. until sunset, providing guests with an enchanting evening experience against the backdrop of this architectural gem.

Sheryl Scott, Director of Communications and Operations at The Gamble House, said the Pasadena landmark aspires to serve as a community resource and gathering place through this initiative. Partnering with local businesses such as Highland Park Wine and Everson Royce’s Altadena Wine, as well as educational institutions like Sequoia High School and the Pasadena Conservatory of Music, the Gamble House seeks to offer an array of entertainment options for attendees.

“We hope that our neighbors and the community at large come out and enjoy the Gamble House on summer nights,” Scott said.

With a lineup of musicians, including the Sequoyah Studio Band, each evening promises a diverse range of musical performances to complement the ambiance.

“Sequoia High School is our neighbor and we currently have an intern program with them, and we knew that they had a band and we were really interested in having them come play for us,” Scott continued. And the Pasadena Conservatory of Music – we have been talking to them about partnering for a number of events coming up this year, and next year we’ll also be partnering with them for our family day. So they were very excited to play for us for the last three dates of this community event.”

“Friday Nights” guests can explore the first floor of the Gamble House, with docents available to provide insights into its rich history and architectural significance. Highland Park Wine will offer wine flights for tasting, adding to the experience of leisurely enjoyment. Triple Beam Pizza will also be onsite, donating 10% of all sales to support the Gamble House.

As for pricing options, Gamble House members will pay $35 with wine tasting, and free without the wine tasting. Non-members will be charged $40 with the wine tasting and $5 without wine tasting. Wine tasters must be 21 and above and will be required to show an ID at check-in.

While guests are encouraged to bring their own picnic blankets and food, outside alcohol, pets, and underage wine tasting are prohibited to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Free public parking is available nearby.

Scott said funds raised during the series will contribute to the preservation and maintenance of the Gamble House.

“We have a number of ongoing projects that, as a historic house, there’s never a moment when something doesn’t need attention,” she said. “We are currently still looking at funds that are needed for our water infiltration issues. We have a number of exterior projects and our ongoing project is trying to make the site more accessible and open for everyone in the community.”

Scott said “Friday Nights” will offer a different experience from traditional museum tours, providing visitors with a relaxed and casual environment to engage with the house on their own terms.

“This is an opportunity to visit the house in a very relaxed, casual way and experience it on their own terms,” she said. “They can walk through the house at their own pace, they can bring a picnic and enjoy just being on the lawn in the evenings and listening to live music. So I think it’s really a good way for people to experience the house in a new way.”
