Early Saturday under overcast skies, the UCLA football team had a homecoming of sorts for their annual final spring practice and returned to the Rose Bowl after one year in Carson.
The showcase scrimmage began bright and early at 10:00 a.m. and was open to the public. Some fans were waiting for them as early as six a.m. The final attendance was 8,738.
Pasadena resident Kenyon Smith was watching the practice game and noted that “this years team looks much bigger than in years past.”
One of the main reasons people came out in droves was to see true freshman and highly touted quarterback Josh Rosen, from Bellflower’s St. John Bosco. Rosen looked sharp, completing 13 of 17 passes for two touchdowns while throwing one interception.
The QB competition is a three way battle between Jerry Neuheisel, Rosen and Asianti Woulard. Coach Jim Mora said he will make his decision before the first game of the season on September 5 versus Virginia at the Rose Bowl.
Rosen arrived at UCLA in January Rated as the top quarterback recruit in the nation.
