At a previous National Night Out, Chalk artists Nicole Mendoza and Sandra Garbay created a street mural for the children to show it’s safe to play, day or night, in the neighborhood.

The Pasadena Police Department will join other law-enforcement agencies and communities throughout the nation by throwing a citywide “National Night Out” block party on Tuesday, August 4th from 4 – 10 p.m.

Pasadena residents will gather at 16 different block parties around the city to discuss safety and security issues with the Pasadena Police Department and meet neighbors.

The Pasadena Police Department invites the community to participate and show their support of crime and drug prevention by organizing a simple neighborhood front yard party, potluck, or informal Neighborhood Watch Meeting on National Night Out.

The Kickoff event featuring the Mobile Command Post, the Fire Department, and the squadron of police including remarks by Chief of Police Phillip Sanchez will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Bella Vista Avenue with food for all.

The largest block party will kick off at 4:00 p.m. at Kings Villages located on Hammond Avenue.

Free-flowing food, music, and games will take place in the block party locations.

“Bring a good attitude and a healthy appetite,” Community Services Sergeant Christ Gutierrez said. “It brings the police department and the community together. We get to know each other on a more personal level.”

Beginning at 5:30 Pasadena Police representatives will visit as many registered neighborhood parties as possible.

National Association of Town Watch, a non-profit, created National Night Out 32 years ago to strengthen police and community relationships. The night also brings the neighborhood spirits up and sends a message to criminals that neighbors are aware and going to take action against drugs and crime.
