Convicted Sex Offender Charged with Kidnapping 2 Pasadena Women Goes to Court Tuesday

A Compton parolee who allegedly kidnapped two 18-year-old Pasadena women in April and attempted to assault them sexually will face the court Tuesday to hear if a date will be set for a preliminary hearing of his case.

Anthony Seth McDaniel, 38, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in early May and remains behind bars in lieu of a $2 million bail.

He will face the court Tuesday in Department J of the Pasadena Courthouse, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. McDaniel faces two felony counts of kidnapping to commit oral copulation. The case includes allegations he caused great bodily injury to one of the victims.

According to Pasadena Police Department records, McDaniel allegedly coaxed the two women into accepting a ride in his pickup truck, as they were waiting at a bus stop in Pasadena.

When the women noticed they were heading in the wrong direction, they complained and one of them jumped out of the moving vehicle as it approached the 210 Freeway on-ramp at Mountain Street.

The woman suffered a fractured ankle and had to be taken to a hospital.

The second woman was seen later and told police the suspect had allegedly brandished a gun and threatened to kill her if she refused to perform sexual acts.

McDaniel was later arrested after authorities learned he was on parole for a 2008 conviction of assault with intent to commit mayhem. He had been equipped with a GPS monitoring device which he apparently wore during the alleged kidnapping incident.

McDaniel could face two life terms in state prison if convicted as charged.

Deputy District Attorney Carolina Lugo is prosecuting the case.
