Give Your Old Cell Phone a New Life

The San Gabriel Valley Chapter of NOBLE (National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives) is participating in the National Fall Phone Collection drive in conjunction with the Verizon Wireless HopeLine Project.   To donate your old phone or accessories simple drop them at the Pasadena Police Department where a collection box will be located in the Watch Commanders’ Office.

HopeLine accepts phones and accessories in any condition from any carrier.  Phones that can be refurbished are resold and those without value are disposed of in an environmentally sound way.  Proceeds from the HopeLine Project are used for provide wireless phones and cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention and awareness.

“October is Domestic Violence Prevention Month and this is a very tangible way in which the Police Department and our community can support programs that help victims, educate the community, and provide awareness,” says PIO Janet Pope Givens.  “Difficult economic times have made it challenging for many of us to come up with cash donations, but this is a way where we can clean out some old cell phones and equipment and have it all put to good use.”

Verizon Wireless’ commitment to preventing domestic violence began in 1995 when the company – then Bell Atlantic Mobile – introduced its HopeLine Program. HopeLine as grown significantly, and is now a multifaceted program that includes successful phone recycling and re-use efforts, financial support for local and domestic  violence prevention organizations, community and corporate awareness programs and partnerships with law enforcement agencies, professional sports teams, educational institutions and corporations nationwide.
